Beyond Body Systems

After learning about the function of each body system some students took their learning a little deeper and researched an illnesses or disease.  Below are the informational posters they created to share their findings.

Topic 5 DCCR to SMART VE

I have created a SMART VE for all of the Topic 5 DCCR pages.  I would like to run it through my class and grade level before I share out so that all of the  problems can be fixed, if necessary.  I am glad to be using the SMART VE again this year.  It really helps with student engagement and immedicate feedback!

Giving Math the FLIP!

I was inspired by the ladies at Prairie Point, who shared their flipped math lessons.  I'm very interested in doing this, especially for math.  I'm thinking about the logistics of how to get started, and I'm filled with questions...

  • Where will I get the resources I need, like a Bamboo, and microphone?
  • Should I try for a grant to get these resources?
  • How far in advance should I try to get these done?  Can I get the next topic up and ready, or should I shoot for a little farther down the road?
  • How will I provide for kids who are not able to participate online from home?  Do I provide them with a downloaded version on a thumb drive?  Are there other alternatives?

I'm excited to find some answers to my questions and start giving this a try!

Collaboration with Smore

We are using Smore for our Economics PBL.  We wanted students to be able to collaboratively work on their  project, so we created a class Smore account with one password for the entire class  Each group created a flyer and it is easier as to view their progress on the project with the class utilizing one account.

Plan of Action

My plan is to go back and use SMART VE in the classroom and have the students use SMORE or Glossi as a publication platform in Writer's Workshop. I am excited to go back and use these and the other tools I learned today in our session.

SMORE

I am excited to use SMORE in the classroom! We are going to try out creating a newsletter for our International Bazaar field trip. Each student will be given a country to research information and can add it to the SMORE newsletter to share with the class!
Tiffany Ridge is going to create Smart Response Quick Check Quizzes from enVision for Topic 4.
Extremely happy about starting American Revolution unit. Thanks for all the background work from the tech team!  We have already, thanks for the work time,a plan about when we are doing what!

Additional Tools...Thank you!

I appreciate the introduction to various tools to incorporate in the classroom at this point of the year.  I shared with others today that I feel the kids are very comfortable with the programs shared with them thus far, and have become very fluent and good at trouble shooting.  I was just saying last week to my team, that my kids need a new program or tool to use.  It is time in my classroom to liven things up again.  I think that Google sites, ePortfolio Presentation will serve as great tools for the kids.  I think our team is going to begin flipping science instruction with our next unit, Water.  We will let you know how it goes.

SMORE

I am very excited to use SMORE in my classroom. It is very user-friendly and allows the kids to be creative in presenting information. The creative options however, are limited, which will be helpful in keeping my students focused in the academic portion of the assignment. The program allows them to create a flyer and they are able to add pictures, text, sound (including their own voices recorded from Vocaroo), and other items. I see myself using it in a variety of subject areas but Social Studies and Science stand out. It was be a great alternative to a PowerPoint presentation or written paper!

Google Sites

I am really excited to introduce this new tool for my students to engage in to publish their projects!

Twitter

At the beginning of this school year, our team recognized the power of Twitter.  We use Twitter for several reasons:
1. Keep a journal of different events as they occur throughout the school year.
2. Communicate updates with parents.
3. Collaborate with other 5th grade classrooms.

The first item has proven to be beneficial as we keep a journal of things that go well and things we need to change.  These tweets allow for professional reflection on a daily basis.... and also communicate important items to families. -@EL5thGrade

Google Sites

Hello everyone.  I am Micaela from Graden.  I am excited to use Google Sites for students to create their own website.  I think the authenticity of having a website will be very motivating for students.  For those of you who have used these before, do you have any tips?

Prairie Point

Our team is going to try SMORE for a science project, and we plan on using the American Revolution PBL that was created by the ITF team.

Hawthorn 5th Grade

We have used blogger in the past for students to share their knowledge about characters with other students.  This provided them with the ability to ask questions and discuss their reading while practicing netiquette.

The students used Google documents to collaborate within their group and present information over Regions of the United States to classmates.

D2L for our Road Trip Regions Project

In the next few weeks my students will be collaborating on a regions project for social studies/reading. We will be researching each region of the U.S., planning a road trip in small groups, then creating a PowerPoint describing our trip.

Regions

Union Chapel did a PBL on the regions of the US.  We have shared the unit on LOR.

Screen-o-matic

I am anxious to try Screen-o-matic for reteaching/at-home support with EnVision. I was very surprised by the ease of operation today!
Union Chapel is going to use SMORE for our colonies PBL.
