Twitter

At the beginning of this school year, our team recognized the power of Twitter.  We use Twitter for several reasons:
1. Keep a journal of different events as they occur throughout the school year.
2. Communicate updates with parents.
3. Collaborate with other 5th grade classrooms.

The first item has proven to be beneficial as we keep a journal of things that go well and things we need to change.  These tweets allow for professional reflection on a daily basis.... and also communicate important items to families. -@EL5thGrade

  1. Thanks for using Twitter to communicate! The ITFs follow you, as well as parents and community members. I would love to see how you use Twitter to collaborate with other 5th grade classrooms. Are you collaborating with other Park Hill classrooms or 5th grade classrooms statewide, nationally, internationally?

Also, do students ever post on your class Twitter? You would never give them the password/username, of course, but you could use your computer as a kiosk station for them to use during the school day. I've worked with other 5th grade teachers using this strategy. It allows students take some ownership by being the ones who send out the tweets. In order to create some accountability, students could add their initials to the individual tweets they send out. Some classrooms even have one student who is responsible for this task each day/week.
